In 1947, George Ottum, a successful  writer and avid golfer took his wife 
on a rare, brief vacation.  They went to Green Lake and played some 
golf and fell inn love with the town and its people.  Realizing how fortunate 
his life was with his wife and family, he wanted to give something back.  
The G.O.O. started the next year.
